Cavs host Raptors in possible playoff preview

Basketball Betting Lines

04/06/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - A possible playoff preview is on tap tonight at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena, where the top-seeded Cavaliers will play host to the playoff-hungry Toronto Raptors.

Cleveland, owners of home-court advantage throughout the postseason, has solidified at least a share of the NBA's best record and will try for its 11th consecutive win as the host Tuesday night. The Cavs have the league's best home record at 34-4 and are 32-2 in their last 34 home games.

The Cavaliers, however, are coming off their second loss in just 13 tries and suffered a 117-113 setback at Boston on Sunday afternoon. LeBron James led all scorers with 42 points, and also recorded nine assists and seven rebounds for Cleveland, which suffered its second straight road loss.

"We got a couple more stops and made a couple more shots," James said of the Cavs' run to get back in the game. "We are a very good rebounding team and without Andy (Varejao) and Shaq, we were still able to go out and collect rebounds. It was a great performance by us."

James leads the NBA with 29.9 ppg, while Antawn Jamison is averaging 16.8 points on .488 shooting and 9.7 rebounds in his last six games. Jamison dropped 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against the Celtics.

The Raptors face a daunting task in Cleveland tonight, and had a three-game winning streak stopped the last time out in a 113-112 decision versus Golden State on Sunday.

Chris Bosh finished with 42 points and 12 rebounds, falling one bucket short of tying his career high. He made 20-of-23 at the free-throw line for Toronto, which lost for the fourth time in seven tries.

Jarrett Jack provided 19 points off the bench and Andrea Bargnani netted 18 for the Raptors, who are just a game ahead of Chicago for the eighth and final postseason berth in the Eastern Conference.

"The game taught us a valuable lesson," Jack said. "You're never out of it until it's over. It just shows if we would have picked up that intensity 45 seconds early, a minute earlier, it wouldn't have came down to us trying to make a heroic shot at the buzzer."

Toronto is two games behind Charlotte for the No. 7 spot and 14-24 away from Air Canada Centre this season. Its magic number to clinch the eighth seed in the East stands at five with six games to play. A loss tonight by the Raptors would clinch a playoff spot for Miami.

Cleveland has won two of three meetings with the Raptors this season, and 15 of the previous 18 overall matchups between the teams. Toronto is winless in its last 10 trips to the Forest City. The last time the Raptors won a game in Cleveland was April 6, 2004.

The 2009 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds have been released and Denver Broncos' running back Knowshon Moreno has been made the opening favorite.

Bet NFL Sports Lines

Moreno was selected in the first round of April's NFL draft and is expected to carry the rushing load for the Broncos this season. And with Jay Cutler now in Chicago, Moreno might be expected to be Denver's entire offense.

Betting Lines from sports betting lines have made Moreno a 5/2 favorite to win this year's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Fellow running back Chris “Beanie” Wells (Arizona Cardinals) is right behind Moreno at 7/2, while Donald Brown (Indianapolis Colts) and receiver Michael Crabtree (San Francisco 49ers) are 5/1 to win. Quarterbacks Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) and Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions) are 7/1 and 8/1, respectively.

A couple of players who present some value are Josh Freeman, Shonn Green and Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Freeman needs to beat out Byron Leftwich to become the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but if he does, he has a lot or raw talent and could use the weapons around him (i.e. Kellen Winslow Jr. and Antonio Bryant) to be very successful in his first season.

Green enters a crowded backfield in New York, but considering both Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are unhappy about their contract situations and might holdout, the former Iowa product could become the Jets' primary back.

Everyone was shocked when Al Davis took Heyward-Bey with the eighth overall pick in April's draft, but the kid has a tremendous amount of talent and if quarterback JaMarcus Russell takes the next step this year, the former Maryland product could blossom. Plus, Heyward-Bey will be looking to prove the people wrong who said Oakland should have taken Michael Crabtree with the No. 8 pick.

And if you're looking for a deep sleeper, check out Pat White at 30/1. He enters the Miami Dolphins vaunted “Wild Cat” offense and could be a big time playmaker.
