Nellie stands on the precipice of history as Warriors visit Wizards
Basketball Betting Lines
04/06/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Golden State Warriors head coach Don Nelson is one win away
from becoming the NBA's all-time wins leader, as he guides his team into
Washington tonight for a showdown with the Wizards at the Verizon Center.
Nelson tied Lenny Wilkins for the all-time wins record at 1,332 victories
after Sunday's 113-112 decision at Toronto in the opener of a four-game road
trip. Corey Maggette had 31 points and rookie Stephen Curry added 29 for
Golden State, which has won two in a row and four of its last six games.
"What a game to tie the record. It had everything you want in a game. It had
good and bad plays, we did it all and somehow we prevailed," said Nelson, who
was mobbed by his players at the bench following the game's final play. "They
made a tremendous comeback. It's a special win. It was special for me to be
part of something I will always remember."
Anthony Morrow scored 25 points in the win. The Warriors will also visit the
Timberwolves and Clippers, and are just 6-31 away from Oakland. On the injury
front, leading scorer Monta Ellis is expected to miss his fifth straight game
because of flu-like symptoms. Ellis is averaging 25.5 ppg this season.
The Wizards will wrap up a three-game homestand Tuesday and has won two of
three games since a miserable 16-game losing streak. In a 109-99 triumph
versus the New Jersey Nets on Sunday, Andray Blatche ended with 20 points, a
career-best 13 assists and nine rebounds in a losing cause. In 26 games since
the All-Star break, Blatche has averaged 22.0 points and 8.4 rebounds and 3.6
assists per game,
With 1,009 points on the season, Blatche is the first Wizard other than
Gilbert Arenas, Caron Butler or Antawn Jamison to score more than 1,000 points
in a season since Larry Hughes netted 1,345 points in the 2004-05 campaign.
Shaun Livingston joined both Nick Young and Cartier Martin with 16 points for
Washington, which is 13-25 in our nation's capital this season.
"I challenged our guys to continue to play, but let's do the things we need to
do in the fourth quarter to finish games," said Wizards coach Flip Saunders.
Washington defeated Golden State, 118-109, back on December 18 on the road.
These two teams have split the last eight matchups in DC.
