Morrow named to FC Dallas head position

Soccer Betting Lines

12/11/2006 - Dallas, Texas (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - FC Dallas general manager Michael Hitchcock announced on Monday that interim head coach Steve Morrow has become the fourth head coach in team history.

The former MLS defender was an assistant for the last two seasons and becomes the first former Dallas player to be named to the managing position.

"I'm thrilled and honored to coach what I consider to be the leading organization in MLS," Morrow said. "I believe we have an extremely talented group of players and with a few adjustments I think we can achieve great things."

The 36-year-old was hired by Dallas as an assistant on February 3, 2004, before resigning in May for personal reasons. The Northern Ireland native returned again on January 27, 2005 and served as the first assistant the past two years.

"Steve possesses all the characteristics which I feel are necessary to lead FC Dallas," Hitchcock said. "He's familiar with the team, the players, and I feel has the understanding and knowledge of what it will take to win championships."

Morrow began his professional player career at 17 with Arsenal of the English Premiership, making his debut at the end of the 1991-1992 season. During his time with the English outfit, Morrow was part of the 1993 FA Cup and 1993 League Cup winning squads, playing in the 1994 European Cup Winner's Cup victory over Parma of the Serie A in Italy. After a four-year stay with Queen's Park Rangers that began in 1997, Morrow came to the U.S. to play for Dallas in 2002.

"He brings a great background which not only includes success with one of the top clubs in the world, but also first hand understanding of what MLS is all about, having also played and coached in MLS," Hitchcock said.

Morrow becomes the 51st coach in MLS history, only the 11th former MLS player. If history repeats itself, it looks good for the Dallas club, as four of the last six MLS Cup Championships have been won by coaches who were also former players in the league.

The last season's head coach, Colin Clarke did not get a contract renewal by the team back on November 7, coming a week after a tough Western Conference semifinal series loss to Colorado by way of penalty kicks.

MySportsbook.com favors Bears, Bengals, Chargers and Colts to remain perfect

LAS VEGAS , Sept. 28 - Two big match-ups of undefeated teams have fans salivating at the Week Four schedule in the NFL. The Chicago Bears stifling defense looks to provide a less than hospitable welcome to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a battle of two 3-0 teams in the NFC conference. In the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) head to Maryland to face the surprising Baltimore Ravens (3-0) as both try to keep pace atop the conference standings. Betting Lines makers at MySportsbook.com, online sportsbook and casino, have set the Bears as 3.5 point favorites while the Chargers are a 2.5 point bet.

Of the three remaining undefeated teams, only one, New Orleans, enters this week's game as an underdog. Despite an emotional and resounding win over Atlanta on Monday night, the Saints are a 7.5 point underdog against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Indianapolis looks to stay perfect when they face the New York Jets as a 9 point road favorite while the Cincinnati Bengals are a 6 point favorite at home to the New England Patriots.

Six teams enter the week still looking for their first win, with a seventh, Tampa Bay, on a bye week. The prospect of dropping another game would not bode well for a potential playoff run. Since 1990, just three teams -- the 1992 Chargers, 1995 Detroit Lions and 1998 Buffalo Bills -- have overcome losing their first three games of the season to earn a postseason berth. And only the Chargers managed to accomplish the feat after starting 0-4.
